Description: Over the past few years, designing directly in the browser has been a growing trend, especially with the rise of designers who also code (or developers who also design). As with any new approach, there are always benefits and limitations. I’ll share some thoughts on why we should be designing in-browser, and offer some tips on how you can tune your process to get better results.
Web Designer at Yellow Pencil

Description: The JSON format is ubiquitous in web and mobile development for moving data between clients and servers, but the way data is queried, posted and returned can differ greatly from application to application. The recent 1.0 JSON API spec attempts to bring some sanity to this space by providing structured guidelines around the formatting and relating of data objects. This talk will look at using JSON API in the context of building a Rails API, some of the open-source libraries that can be used to implement the spec, and using the remote-facade pattern to architect (or refactor) a Rails service using a resource layer for both query efficiency and code maintainability.
